Landscape Tips - Wave Rock

Grab you SLR & get shooting!!!

Spring is one of the most exciting times to shoot the landscape, there are lots of vibrant colours, splashes of green and our dramatic West Australian skies.

This image of Wave Rock was taken about a year ago .. I wanted to capture the bright yellow canola fields that blanket our landscape every year for a few short weeks. I love the ever changing scenery of the Wheat Belt & Great Southern region and ended up spending a couple of days in Hyden while I was shooting.

This image was taken early morning, the air was nice and crisp and the sun was still low enough to give the rock this spectacular shape. A few interesting clouds floating in the sky enhanced this spectacular landmark. I've been shooting the Australian landscape for 25 years now and still wonder at the changing seasons and colours, a photographer's dream!

I am from the old school of photography (a perfectionist world) and I strive in doing everything possible to take the absolute best image during the shoot … the image composition, lighting, an interesting or obscure angle and perfect exposure is the recipe to all great landscape images.

Photoshop is only a tool to put the finishing touch to your image. If you don't have a great image to work with, Photoshop is only part of the answer!
